Hi Rustaceans,
Apologies if this is old news - just spoke with Jef Pieler (sp?) of
Sidestreet Records in Burbank, he also writes the real exhaustive
release/cat. #/label info stuff for Broken Arrow - said emphatically that Joel
Bernstein had definitely bagged the whole German LP reissue project
because the wrong masters were being used, among other things.
Oh well, back to the flea market..

Subject: Archives info from Reprise
I e-mailed Reprise yesterday to ask if they had any details on the Neil Young Box Set announced on their new releases list for 1997. I was worried about the impact this release might have on my financial situation. :-) I don't think our "source" will mind if I share the reply with you:
It will have 4 CDs -- so you won't have to save up quite so long... but I think that it only covers 1963-1974 -- so there is probably going to be more than one! -- Not all at the same time though.Best,
Ilene

Had a great time (at the Raleigh show) but never did sit in my seats. That is one of the wonderful things about sheds...you can sort of sneak around. Somehow hit the backstage area with my oldest son and Lookout Mama. It was a wonderful seven or so minutes with his Neilness.
Did get a chance to speak with Mr. Roberts from Lookout and the archives are on track for Christmas. We have it on tape that they are coming out at Christmas time. Good follow-up question came right out of my mouth, "'96 or '97?" You guessed it, '97.
Total of 16 CDs, in bursts of 4 -- with a completion date of 2020 per Mr. Roberts.

Subject: Update on the archives
This is a note i got on the leeshore (csn) list that was sent by Stephen Barncard.....
"I just got back from Neil's ranch today and personally observed his archive crew working at a fever pitch mastering the Anthology and other re-releases. After trying every A-D coversion scheme in the universe, archivist John Knowland and historian Joel Bernstein are working day and night on the project, transferring to HDCD format. I've heard some of it, and it was stunning. I hope the record buying public appreciates the effort that went into this.thought that might be nice to hear........"People will buying thousands of HDCD converters to hear this at it's best. I'm really jazzed. These guys get to do it right."

Thought I'd forward this to the list. The response from Reprise to my request for BA promo posters .......
From: JackMack1@aol.com......Neil rules!I'm sorry but we already gave away all the Neil Young posters. We gave away more Neil posters than posters for all the other artists on Reprise -- including Alanis, Green Day, The Cult and Morrissey! Thanks for entering anyway. We'll definately be doing more contests with Neil Young prizes as time goes on.

Just sitting here browsing through the September (yes, I know it's only mid July, but I'm on that VIP subscription list I guess :-)~ ) issue of High Times Magazine and guess who has a FULL page add in it? Yup, you guessed it, ol' Neil my man! It's a full page with the cover picture of Broken Arrow on it! So all you Rusties out there, run to your local News Stand and pick up a copy. From today's Denver Post:
"Hootie and the Blowfish called, so Willie Nelson is coming. Nelson is bringing his next Farm Aid concert to the rock band's South Carolina hometown. The Oct. 12 concert will feature Hootie and the Blowfish, Nelson, and Farm Aid co-founders John Mellencamp and Neil Young.". . . . .Matt Sebastian
According to the Sunday, July 15 Atlanta Journal Constitution, Neil is scheduled to perform at Farm Aid which will be held at University of South Carolina on October 12.
Is this just a rumor, or is there other information?

If you check the Reprise Web Page there's a contest or such where you can win a promo poster. I think you basically have to tell them what your favorite song is or something. Can't be too hard - I got one in the mail today, and if I can win......

Limited edition cardboard packaging is in the US only. This is a package like the last Los Lobos album, Colassal Head. In time, BA will be in the standard plastic jewel box in the USA, too. It has been released in the standard jewel box everywhere except in the USA.

I guess I must be addicted to Rust to sneak into work on a holiday just to catch up on my mail. Anyway, Randy Bachman was interviewed on MuchMusic a couple of days ago, and he mentioned the possibility of his band and Neil & CH sharing the bill on some shows in the Toronto area at the end of the summer. He said they were working out the details, but I think this would interfere with some of Neil's shows which are already confirmed, so I don't think it's going to happen. Bachman also mentioned that a video for Made In Canada is in the works, but he didn't say if Neil would be in it or not.

Hi rusties,
Just came back from my lunch break where I bought:

I heard the missing six are going to be released in Germany sometime in July. I guess the date is pretty firm. So far no word on the supposed August release for the US. There's a CD store advertising to sell the German Imports for $29.97 + $5.00 shipping! Let's hope the US release is August.

I just took the kids and myself out to town and went to my favorite record store (they stilll ARE called RECORD stores, aren't they?) and got the new, shiny Broken Arrow CD they had got in this morning.
The manager asked: "Yeah, I knew you came here for that... But would you be interested in THIS?" I waited holding my breath... A promo poster? An OPL CD? A new songbook? ARCHIVES???????
No, a coupon to take my kids to McDonalds.

Well .... I just walked into the local Cole's Book Store and I'm checking out the 'Arts' section (yeah, right!) and what do I find ....? A little book about the size of a compact disc .... I thought that's what it was at first. Looks like its designed to fit right in with your cd collection. It's called "liner notes: an illustrated musical history - NEIL YOUNG" ..... It's written by Brian Keizer (of SPIN fame) and produced by Dave Marsh. I bought it right away .... kinda pricey at $11.95 CDN, but what the hey ......
It's a chronological kinda thing with years at the bottom of pages and different things that happened in those years. I'm gonna go home a read it now.
My friend worked backstage security at last weekend's Tibetan Freedom Concert in San Francisco and he said Neil was there on Sunday...
Hi,
this morning I heard the new single Big Time for the second time on the radio. It was played by the station WDR2. WDR is a public radio and TV broadcaster located in Cologne. They are "presenting" the show on June-23 in Dueren and every day a NY song is played or you can hear a NY/ZZTop jingle just before the 12:00 p.m. news.
After playing Big Time they gave away 10 times two tickets for Dueren. I did not phone in because I already have my ticket.
I heard Big Time the first time on Friday evening on radio EinsLive (WDR1). While watching soccer on TV I had the radio running in the background. And suddendly there was a familiar guitar sound comming out of the right loudspeaker. Of course I had to turn up the volume.
While I'm writing this, radio EinsLive is playing Big Time again. This new single gets good airplay!
