Re: NEIL YOUNGRegards,
Hi Joe. You wrote:1) Is the Archives collection postponed again????
I haven't heard that yet. I still have it as a possible for October of THIS year. In fact, the guy who works next to me who is a big deal is up at the ranch right now listening to all this stuff...and the live stuff too, probably...
2) Will the Live Album be released in summer??? Can you confirm any tracks???
We're aiming for that but Neil hasn't finished putting it together (he's working on it now) so I don't have a track listing just yet.
3) Will the Jarmusch's film be released on Video????
I don't do film, have no idea.
4) What about the Missing Six - Any news???
No news, and I've been trying......
5) What about the Bridge Album - Any news???
Nothing yet. He's got them all hanging on the schedule and he works on one release at a time.....
Sorry I sound like nothing is going on, but he's just working on the Live album for summer and the other for October, and soon I hope to have more and I'll make it into a news item...
Best,
Ilene
Friday Orange County Register's music section Neil Content for this week... (They had NC for 3 weeks running, then skipped a couple of weeks.)
Mark Brown says the live album is a double CD. I'm not sure I'd seen the word double with this new album yet. That's either more to enjoy or more to bitch about. I'm also hoping for a video myself. It's still due out in June.
He says the archives set is still due in October, 1997, but they're talking
about slipping into 1998.

Subject: Neil on the cover!
Neil is on the cover of the May issue of Musician magazine along with several other songwriters - Dylan, Waits, Wilson, Newman, and Davies.
The feature is GREATEST SONGS OF ALL TIMES, as chosen by various songwriters. Randy Newman chose The Needle And The Damage Done as his all time favorite song:
"Because it moves me everytime I hear it, no matter how many times I hear it. I love the tune, and the whole attitude of it. Of course, we all know someone who has died of an overdose, so it has that content, which is powerful. But more than that, the song really holds up incredibly well. Neil Young may very well be the best writer this music has produced, and I like many of his songs very much, including that Rust Never Sleeps - My My Hey Hey - especially that live version of that. But this would be his best song."Okay! Everybody go buy a Randy Newman CD. ;)

Subject: NEIL & ME - April 26!!
Reading Rusties,
Well save your pennies kids. I just got off the phone with my "friend" at the publishers, and she tells me that in a little over a month from now, Neil & Me will be on the shelves. It will have an updated chapter added and more pictures. It's a great read for those who never saw it the first time.
It's at the printers as we speak, and the publisher's publicity department is starting to "work the book". So for all you people with connections to booksellers, make sure the orders are placed.
And for the rest of us, go to your favorite bookstore and demand they order them in and then plunk down your spare change for this great book. In fact, buy a couple. They make great gifts.
So, there we go. Another successful rust project completed.

I just got off the phone with a source that said Neil has 10 CDs in the can and they are ready to put out as many as Warner will allow. Neil is said to be pretty intense on this, from someone who saw him Monday.

Subject: Neil recording with Percy Sledge?
Hi there!
I was reading a two weeks old paper this weekend (I live in the not so distant past). This was published 14 Feb 97 in a Swedish newspaper (Sydsvenskan for those you who might be familiar with it). This is a really lazy translation.
Percy is gathering the strengths. Then the article goes on for 3 sentences about Rickfors. Mikael Rickfors is a lousy Swedish singer you never heard of. If this turns out to be correct, it would be really interesting hearing Neil with Knopfler and (old)King. When a man loves Percy Sledge enough, then he will be playing on his next album. The now 56 year old soul-singer will be helped out by NEIL YOUNG, Mark Knopfler, perhaps BB King, and our own Mikael Rickfors when he records his new album this spring.
Just got back from Toronto. While there, I heard on Q107 about the upcoming Canadian Music Week. One of the events is an auction to benefit a charity (forget which one). Anyhoo, one of the items up for auction is a Lionel train set autographed by Neil. The auction is on March 5th in Toronto.
Hello rusties! Some quick notes:
BTW, Vin is definately a fan of Neil. I've heard him play Neil occasionally--everything from Expecting to Fly to excerpts from Arc!! A few weeks ago, Vin played a tape of a live performance from his show from a few years ago of Shawn Colvin doing a beautiful version of Birds.
Hi. I don't recall seeing this before.
Microsoft Music Central (about 3/4 of the way down that page) has news of an upcoming "offical" Neil Young biography project, being written by a Jimmy McDonough. He wrote a review Neil liked, so he got the job. Wish I'd thought of that!
There is also mention of a 500 page booklet to be included in this Fall's
Archives set. I dont recall seeing this before. Check it out.

Subject: Neil on the Rogue Market?
Hey rusties,
The following e-mail was gleefully read by me today:
"As to Neil Young: keep your eyes on the Announcements page. We add new listings every Wednesday, and Neil may have an initial offering in a couple of weeks. How does his song go? 'It's better to be listed, than it is to rust...' ?"That mail came from the person who runs the Rogue Market. This is a not-for-profit web site.
The Rogue Market is a game in which shares of celebrities are "traded". Each "player" gets $10,000 or $15,000 to invest in celebrities (alive and dead). The market fluctuates according to media exposure, typically.
Obviously, there were many market changes after the Grammy's ended.
So, if there is about to be a Neil Young IPO, shouldn't all of Rust be let in on this?
peace

Hi David,
Well I can officially notify you that my book entitled There's Something Happening Here: The Story of Buffalo Springfield, by John Einarson with Richie Furay (Quarry Press, 1997) will be released in May. It's approximately 280 pages with 60 photos culled from Richie's private memorabilia collection plus a foreword by Richie himself.
It's definitely the definitive story on the group drawn from dozens of interviews and Richie's own personal reflections. For Neil Young fans there is a wealth of new information that sets his time in the Springfield firmly in perspective, clarifies many long held myths and stories, plus it details several songs and lyrics never seen before and dozens of rare photos including the group's rehearsals and audition at the Whisky in May, 1966 plus behind the scenes shots.
The book won't be out until May in North America, and not in the UK or Australia for quite awhile. If anyone is interested in purchasing copies directly from me I'll have them available by early May. I can be reached either via e-mail at jeinarso@mbnet.mb.ca or via post at 14 Woodchester Bay, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, R3R 3E6. Cost including air mail postage is $21 US. Otherwise it can be ordered from a local book store.
Thanks to Rust for the ongoing support. Talk to you soon. JE

I just heard from a friend that Neil & CH at Farm Aid will be broadcast Sunday eve at 10:30pm here on 101.5 FM in the New York City area. I don't know if it's a repeat of the 1994 Farm Aid with bits of 1992 and 1990 thrown in, or if it's perhaps the recent one with Croz... I hope for the latter!

I don't know whether to believe it or not, but thought it might interest others -- supposedly there is a Buffalo Springfield Box Set set for a mid-May release. Subject: "Neil & Me" - April!!
Rustafarians,
Good News!! Just got off the phone with the publisher of Neil & Me. The book is scheduled for release in April with an additional 8 pages of pictures, a new chapter by Scott, and an updated discography. In the catalogue which is going out this week to booksellers, we are acknowledged indirectly in the text where it refers to "a campaign by fans on the Internet" getting this book published again.
Unfortunately, they don't have release parties for individual titles, but she hoped we would have our own party. They have sold rights to the book in the U.K. and have a few other international deals pending.
So there you go rusties, rust power worked. Save up your pennies and buy the book in a couple of months.
