brown skinned indian posted to Rust this note she received:
Incidentally, I just saw a 15 second promo on MTV for their Beach House Party shows starting Monday, and they're using Cinnamon Girl for the music. Anybody mention this on Rust? I thought it was a Neil promo for the album or tour or something at first and it really got me excited. They're building the house, apparently, in fast motion like the RNS film, and I thought they were putting up an outside stage for a second. What a disappointment. Why would he allow them to use the music in an advertisement? Is he singing for MTV now and Pepsi next week? Sheila needs to call Lookout right now and you need to knock off a post to Ilene and CinnGirl1 needs to do whatever it is she does.Something similar just occured where My My Hey Hey (or HHMM - I get confused) was being used on radio & tv recently to hype a promo for a classic rock radio station. Lookout was informed of this. Their official reaction is that as long as the music is not being used to hype a particular product/politico/cause, it's ok. It's viewed as exposure for Neil's music (can you say "free publicity" boys & girls? I knew you could). And to go after the person(s) using it would cause more negative publicity than it's worth.
Besides, it's probably the only time we'll ever get to hear Neil on MTV! :-}

Subject: Tour Info, Album Info
Just spoke to Frank - dates will not be available (according to him) until around this time next week. Don't know what the hold-up is. Apparently, there's still some negotiating going down. At that point I hope to find out not only what the dates are, but who the opening act/acts is/are.
As for the new album - I mentioned that a few sources had the release date being pushed back (believe I said ATN and/or ICE so sorry if I misquoted those 2 sources). I was told that, #1: release date is still scheduled for July 2nd and #2: While at this point in time the most probably album title will be Broken Arrow it may be changed back to Echo. Go figure. Anyway....
....will keep on top of it from this end. Cinnamon Girl, anything new on your side?

Okay Cinnamon Girl - counting on you now!
Just got off the phone with Jill. She says they're still going back and forth with the William Morris Agency over a few things (they're booking the tour) and no dates till Tuesday.
Which will be out first - the tour dates or the new album? :-}

i've been thinking lately about seeing neil live this summer. have we ever suggested to lookout the possibility of peferential seating for neil fans?Yes we have. I guess you weren't here for last year's Bridge concert. We were able to get a row - albiet a small one: only 20 seats - but a row nonetheless.
i'm sure with this internet thing and the unity of his fanbase, somehow we could get the cherry seats and perhaps get "showered in spit"? i always end up in the nose bleed seat getting a headache watching the show through binoculars.I wasn't there, but I'm told the seats were average - neither good nor bad. Unfortunately, the "showered in spit" seats are usually reserved for the artists friends, family, and those folks the record company and management owe favors to.
is this at all possible or just a dream?Don't know if it's possible yet. Let's see the tour dates/cities first (Cinnamon, I'll race ya to see who gets em first :-} ). I fully intend to ask about Rust Rows though.

Subject: Latest From Lookout
What is happening here?! Two times in a row that Lookout returned my phone calls/faxes without a follow up! A dangerous trend may be developing here. :-}
Did some checking on a few things. Here they are:
And sorry, I completely forgot to ask who was the producer (I did ask in my fax, but forgot to reiterate when I spoke to Frank)
That's all for this week folks - time to get ready for the Kentucky Oaks.

Subject: Latest From Lookout/Dead Man dates
Just got off the phone with Lookout. Can you believe it, they actually called me!!!! Hmmmmmm........
Anyway, Jill & I spoke about Cinnamon Girl's information posted earlier to Rust. Here's what I have.
Starts on the East Coast in August and will, as Cinnamon Girl says, continue West thru September/October. No dates or locations confirmed yet (except for this Blockbuster one sometime in September). And yes, it has been reiterated to me that the tour will NOT include Canada this year. And, unfortunately, no amount of letters will get Neil to change his mind. She, too, agrees it sucks and is sorta unfair, but what can you do?
May 10th: Atlanta / Boston / Los Angeles / Miami (yea!!!) / New York / Philadelphia / San FranciscoIf she gets any more cities she'll let me know.May 17th: Cleveland / Dallas / Washington, DC / Denver / Detroit / Minneapolis / San Diego
May 24th: Houston / Seattle
June 28th: Chicago

Let me speak to Frank first and make doubly sure this info is correct. Remember, at this point it's probable, but still sketchy. If I find out this is the case, hell, I'll help you all write the damn thing! ;-}

Subject: Finally! Some news from Lookout
And, unfortunately, not all what everyone wanted to hear. Please don't kill me - I'm only the messenger.
Just got off the phone with Jill. Frank is not available so the details this week are sketchy at best. She is going to try and have him call me back to fill in any missing info.
#1: MISSING SIX: new release date is... (ok, I'll wait till you all stop laughing).............. June 25th. I'll lay 10-1 against. :-}
#2: NEW NEIL & CRAZY HORSE RELEASE: Yes, it's being worked on as we speak, but you all knew that already. She has no idea when the release date will be. She speculates it may be late summera but this is one that Frank will have to confirm.
#3: DEAD MAN: Will be opening later this month in San Francisco and going on a "VERY limited engagement". As for the rest of the States, it will be out this year, but it is being put into slow release. None of this "now showing in New York and L.A. - opens Friday everywhere else" stuff. Drips and drabs. I guess those in the big cities will get it way before most of us (although according to marketing studies, a large amount of test marketing is done in Buffalo and Minneapolis - you guys may be the lucky ones).
#4: NEIL ON LETTERMAN THE WEEK OF MAY 6th: As far as she knows, this is simply not true. Frank will have to confirm but according to Jill, Letterman's people may wish to get Neil but right now it's no way. BUT remember, these are the same folks who told us that there would be NO tour this year. Which brings us to the big one...
#5: NORTH AMERICAN TOUR: All you Eurorusties can skip to the next message now. Actually, wait one sec. The dates you have are the dates you're getting. Sorry, Italy, Israel and a few others. No additional dates are planned at this time. Now you can go....
The United States leg of the tour is planned for late summer/early fall. Dates should at this point be in September and October. Jill doesn't have any confirmed that she could give me - again she said talk to Frank about when they'll be available.
This next sentence hurts me to write but.... As of now, and with no plans to change their mind, there will be NO Canadian dates. If I feel this badly I can imagine how all of you up North must be feeling about that. Hardly seems right does it? There will be dates in the Northeastern US and the Northern Midwest so for a lot of you road trips will be an option. But it still sucks. Would a letter writing campaign among Rusties, their families & friends in Canada help?
Anyway, that's it for this week. If I don't hear further confirmation from Frank on any of the above I will call him next Friday and see if I can shake some stuff out of him.

Subject: Lookout Non-news
Had a message from Lookout on my machine today when I got home. No news yet on the Eurodates and venues.
As for the missing six, according to Jill there is no new release date info. Since I'm not real sure whether she meant that April 23rd is still tentatively it, or that once more we've been postponed indefinitely, I will try and reach her tomorrow. If I can't get her before I leave this weekend, I will try and call her from Arizona. Since I will be computerless (I imagine), Locator has graciously agreed to post any info to Rust that I may get while I'm out of town if I can't get access to the net. If there's news to be had Rust will get it one way or the other.

Subject: ATN is Right - NO tour
Major bummer guys and gals. Spoke to Jill at Lookout this evening. First she said there are no tour dates but when I pressed she admitted that the tour has been officially cancelled. So that rumors don't fly, there is nothing wrong with Neil or anybody in the Young family. Seems our boy just don't feel like touring - nothing more, nothing less. She does not know if he's postponed the tour to work on the archives - one can only hope.
Maybe we should blame this all on Clyde?

Subject: Tour Info Update
The tour IS a definite. No reason given yet for why it was delayed, but it is now scheduled for the summer. HOWEVER, dates will not be available until around Eastertime. Tentatively, it's now scheduled for late May/early June. I know it's kinda early to be worried about it now, but if it coincides with Spring Break I will get the info out to everyone somehow.
Trish, I believe it was you who mentioned a possible weeks worth of dates at the Beacon in New York for the end of March. According to Lookout, simply not true! And, for all of us South Florida Rusties (all 5 of us), I have won the battle and worn them down! According to Jill, there WILL be show(s) in South Florida! Is the Sunrise Music Theater ok with everyone? I'm pushing for that venue. :-}
Oh yeah - the reissues are now scheduled for release (all of them) on April 23rd.
To all you Rusties who aren't into Sinead, Simpson's or war atrocities, is this info ok? :-}
