Subject: Latest from Lookout re: Canadian dates

Just hung up with Jill. Here's the latest.

Yes, the rumor from Jam ezine is true. There is a Canadian tour starting momentito. As for dates/venues, they aren't set yet - still being worked on. Take the list you have seen and pencil question marks next to it. If things work out, those will be the cities.

Don't have any more details - Jill doesn't have them yet and she was on her way out the door to go catch Pat Benetar at the Greek (another Lookout client).

BTW, Jill was at the Forum show last night as well. Asked her what she thought and she told me it "wasn't one of my favorite Neil shows". Told her that those who are major Neilheads here on Rust also kinda thought it was a tad less than spectacular (believe I said it was felt he sleptwalked thru it). Her reaction? "It was definitely a weird show." She also said the audience was a "bit strange."

Subject: Rustrows For Canada??

I don't have the possible sites/venues list for the Canadian tour (and I haven't called Lookout yet today) but what I'd like to know is a rough idea of how many folks are in each of the possible towns so that I can get an idea where and when Rustrows are needed. Like somebody said, I doubt I'd get a row for 2 tickets but if we could arrange for Rusties to at least sit together....

Subject: Canadian Tour???

Well, a message is in to Lookout to see how much more info I can come up with. No reply today but I didn't really expect one. This is probably Elliot's first day back in the office since the tour began, and with the LA show tonite I'm sure they were, to say the least, a bit busy. Will try late tomorrow afternoon.

CG, you've been awful quiet lately - anything you can get from your sources???

Subject: Re: Bridge Show Tickets, MTV Appearance

OK...just hung up with Jill and as far as she knows, there will be NO problem in getting Rustrows for both shows this year. BUT, details will be forthcoming later cuz, according to her, "we have plenty of time". I'm workin' on it....

Also, found out that Neil's inclusion in the MTV awards even caught them by surprise over at Lookout. They didn't know till last minute.....

Neil Young......gotta love 'im. :-}

Subject: Bridge dates - make those travel plans

According to Lookout, the dates for Bridge this year are: October 19th and 20th. Same bat-time, same bat-channel as usual. No acts announced yet and won't be for a few weeks.

Other tour news: As of now, no firm Western Canada dates for 1997 and no plans for an Australian leg of the tour yet either. But, as we all know, that's this week........

I know there was something else I was supposed to try and find out this week but I can't find where I wrote it down. So, my apologies for not asking. If anybody remembers, please email me and I'll ask Monday.

Subject: Re: No Neil show in Portland

Jason is partially right about no Portland show. Checked around with Lookout, especially after not seeing Portland on the tour shirts. Apparently, this tour will hopefully be continuing later on this year. Now before folks get excited about is Neil coming to their city or not, the ONLY thing that I know right now is that they are trying to come to terms over dates in WESTERN CANADA. I don't know how much of Canada is considered Western by whom, so, other than British Columbia (which I've been told) I don't know where else. However, for some reason the Portland date is supposed to be tied into these Canadian dates. Why, I don't know. But the latest is that Portland will probably be tacked on to the Western Canada dates when they are announced. And, at this point I don't have that info either. Stay tuned.....

Subject: Backstage Report

What can I say??? Totally awesome Fuckin' Up, incredible Hurricane! Got to go backstage after the show. Strange.... I really didn't like the way Neil was trotted out to meet everyone. They make you sit a table and Neil is supposed to come around and give you 2 minutes. But instead everyone rushed him so I got sorta shuffled back.

But, I did get to give him the shirts personally. Told him that they were from Rust and Brad Brandeau. Neil takes the shirts and says "oh yeah... Rust". (Zeke, who was given his shirt earlier also knows about us.) So I get him to sign the back of my MORE BARN and he leaves. But I did get to tell him that Rust says thanks.

So Neil leaves, and goes to his bus and we're all getting ready to leave and one of the crew guys comes running over to me and says that Neil is like totally crazy about the shirts. So much so, that he's walking to the bus with one under each arm. Maybe some of you later Rusters will get to see Neil & Co. make a fashion statement!!

Subject: Goin' to Raleigh.....

In about 12 hours I am on my way so I probably won't be checking my email before I go, and if I do I sure won't have time to respond. So.....

Popular consensus on what to ask Neil is, as I said before, not a question. Seems the bulk of you who answered just want to say thanks for it all. OK - you got it. I've been lucky enough to score a backstage pass to the party after the show. The main purpose of this is to present Neil, the Horse, and Elliot Roberts with their MORE BARN shirts, courtesy of Brad B. and everyone on Rust. So, in addition to my rehearsed presentation speech (do you like it? It's, "Hi Neil....") I will add the heartfelt thanks of 1,000 Rusties to Neil for just being Neil.

Now I just gotta remember to pack my Crazy Horse earrings......

Subject: Lookout needs our help....

I just spoke to Frank Gironda over at Lookout and he's asked us on Rust if we can possibly help them out. Seems that they'd like to spread the word about the soundtrack to Dead Man. He knows we all know about it, and the bulk of us have our copies but it seems that there's little call for it outside of our CD players. He and Lookout would appreciate any help we can give them in spreading the word about the CD. I thought of Locator's idea about generating an email campaign to local radio stations asking if they could spin a cut or 2 (track 11?). Perhaps we can try that - I'd be happy to collect a list of radio station emails through the country and then post a master list to Rust so we can blitz them.

Maybe some of you with web pages could include a blurb about the soundtrack? Anybody else have any ideas? I believe this is the first time the folks at Lookout have actually asked for our help with anything and I'd love to be there for them. Perhaps if we come thru this will be the catalyst to that type of relationship that Linda mentioned earlier in her post about fans clubs and better seats and not having to go thru hoops in the future and such.

To the BC Rustie who earlier mentioned wanting to play the most requested Neil on his late nite radio show - can I put in a request for something off the CD? This is the kind of stuff that can be beneficial.

If anybody has ideas, please share them. And thanks!

BTW, there are no more copies left of the acoustic promo unfortunately . Apparently Vapor has given them all out. And, all the ones I had have been given away as well.

Did not hear from Lookout yesterday as promised. I will try Jill soon as I get home on Monday but it'll probably be too late by then since tickets will have already gone on sale. However, I will set up Rows if I can anyway - this way if the seats are better you always have that option...

Subject: Rustrows - Denver & Seattle

Yes to both.

I'm waiting to hear from the folks at The Gorge so I can pass the info on to Mort so right now I have nothing.

However, for Denver.....
Dave Katz is handling this one - I've left him a message this afternoon and hopefully he'll be home in enuff time to coordinate everything today. If I don't hear from him by 7 my time tonite, I will make the necessary calls and forward all info on to him.

So far here's what I do know. Fiddler's Green is holding 30 tickets for Rust. These will be, depending on how many tickets are actually bought, in sections 1, 2 or 3. Diagram below:

   |--------| - stage
    2 1 3
   4 5 6 7 8
 General Admission
We're waiting to hear the final price. It will either be #33.25 or $38.25 depending on whether or not they tack on a $5 special order fee.

That's all I know for now. Like I said, Dave should have all the details later tonite so get with him.

If you're unable to reach him you can try me later tonite: 954-752-3171.

Subject: A Cleveland Rustrow

I know tickets went on sale this past weekend and most of you already probably have them, but.....

We do have a rustrow. And it's damn good seats so some of you might wanna consider trading up. Here's the details.

The person handling this one is Jim Fox ( FOXYWEBB2@aol.com). From now on, get to him directly.

The tickets cost $41.75 each. We have 40 of them put aside.

They are in Section 12, Rows G thru N. This translates to the section immediately to the right of the stage (section 13 is center), row 7 thru14. Don't know how many are in each row or why they span so many rows.

Blossom Music Center is holding these tickets for us until August 21st (they MUST be paid for by that date), so if you're gonna go, it'll give you a window to unload your tickets if they're not as good.

Anyway,....now it's time to see what's up with Pittsburgh!

Subject: A rustrow in Cleveland??? Maybe....

OK, here's the scoop.

Until tonite there was nobody willing to take on this one so, unfortunately, it just sat there. Hopefully it's not too late but....

This afternoon I spoke with Jill and she called the promoter and gave the go ahead for a row of 40 tickets. The promoter called Blossom Music Festival, or whatever it's called, and there's the problem. Apparently, the Blossom folks were so overwhelmed by their Hootie show last night that they took the day off today! So, faxes and phone calls back and forth had no effect. There is a fax waiting in their offices for them first thing Monday and this says that Rust can have the tickets and it's been authorized by Lookout, and blah, blah, blah..... BUT, as we all know (or hopefully know), tickets go on sale tomorrow. And, as Howard the promoter (who was a real doll, btw) pointed out to me, since the box office won't know until Monday that we're allowed to have the tickets, there's no way of knowing if they will save 40 tickets for us! Apparently, they're not open tomorrow to sell tickets - must just be ticketbastard.

So here's the best we can do...
I will call tomorrow JUST IN CASE. But don't count on it. However, Monday morning I will call the box office and if there are still tickets available I will hold them. Meanwhile, if you can get them tomorrow go ahead - just to be safe. Then if there's still a row you can decide if you want to sit there or not.

Also, I believe we do have somebody who is willing to coordinate this whole mess once we get it in place. But since I haven't heard back from him yet tonite I don't wanna release his name just yet - let me make sure.

I'll keep you all posted.....

As of tonite I have not been able to pull this one off. To Bruce and everyone else who were in on this one I offer my sincerest apologies. Sometimes it does work against you....

However, if you all wish I'll continue to try and get this row and if the seats are better than you can all always upgrade.....

Just spoke with the promoter who's handling the show.

We have 40 tickets put aside for us at Tinley Park. I don't have the particulars yet - Tom Ostler will be the one to contact on that and I understand that Tom will be contacting everyone tonite about things.

I just wanted you all to know it's been done!

Subject: Deer Creek Rustrow

Jill came thru for us on this one (the promoter was giving Joe B a hard way to go and Jill set her as straight as she could). She spoke with the promoter at Deer Creek and there is a row(s) being set aside for Rust. As of now, I'm still waiting for Elaine to call me back with all the details but here's what I do know.

  1. Tickets will be face value (for some reason Elaine thought we wanted a discount)
  2. Supposedly we have all we need (Joe said something like 70 tickets?). This I will need to firm up tomorrow with her.
  3. The bad news is that we are, according to her, being treated just like every other group sales ticket buyer. I suppose that means it'll be like Nissan Pavillion was - the promoter/box office sets aside a certain section of the venue for groups and nothing is gonna change that. So figure that the tickets will probably not be in Sections A,B, or C.
As soon as I hear anything further I will post to the list. Tickets and stuff will still be thru Joe - I'm just subbing while he's on vacation...

To all Rusties wanting a Deer Creek Rustrow,

Just got off the phone with Jill and she's straightened out the problems with Deer Creek. I have to go out for about an hour and a half but soon as I return I will call Elaine at the Promoter's office and get the details for the tickets and such. Will post ASAP.

Additionally, for the Raleigh Rustrowers, spoke to Kim over at Walnut Creek this morning since I'm getting a bit antsy - they still haven't cashed my check! Been promised they'll do so tomorrow and then send the tickets to me next week. If it gets too tight I'll just Priority them all and you can all chip in and owe me a shirt! ;-}

Subject: rustrows & such

Spoke to Jill tonite over at Lookout. We got our Rustrows for the following list of cities/venues.

In addition to these above, we will also have them for the following cities only I don't know who the promoters are yet: For those of you waiting news on the possible Austin show, it's still in the "to be announced" status. Not confirmed, but not denied.

Now, I realize that some of these venues have already started selling tickets and some are probably already sold out as well. Up to you guys if you still want the row(s) or not. For those places that haven't started to sell yet, listen up! I need FOLKS TO COORDINATE RUST ROWS ONLY! I believe I have somebody for Deer Creek, Pittsburgh and Concord (if you 3 got your messages from me earlier tonite). But the rest of these cities need somebody to run the rows.

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!!! DO NOT write to me if you need tickets for Rustrows. That will be up to your coordinators. Only email me if you're willing to take on this Herculean task (and have a cousin at MasterCard who can tweak your limit upwards.).

Time is of the essence here since tickets to a lot of these places will be going on sale shortly. And, to be honest, I don't know tonite how long I will have email for after Thursday afternoon. Depends on the whims of Big Ol' Bertha out there.

Now I gotta go...
