Subject: Japan virtually confirmed

Today I've just heard from Japanese Promoter SMASH that Neil is confirmed for Fuji Rock Festival, for July 28. An official anouncement will be released on 03/26 in Japan.

From: Hiro Nishiyama <hhiirroo@tkb.att.ne.jp>
Subject: How likely Japan?

Yes, it's more than a rumor! Fuji Rock Festival (since 1997) is the biggest summer rock fest in Japan. In past years, along with many Japanese bands, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beck, Iggy Pop, Bjork, Rollins Band, Phish, ZZ Top, Elvis Costello, Nick Cave and many many more US & Euro musicians have played there.

The boss of the SMASH corporation (the promoter) has already announced half-officially about "The old horse-master from the land of maple" (not mentioned with a straight "NY&CH" yet). He also says "He said he would not appear as rumored at The Big Festival."

An official press release should be announced in a few days.

Oh please, European rusties, give us a chance for this time. We waited for 12 years to see Neil here, and 25 years for The Horse!!!

In today's "VG" (Norway's largest newspaper), an article says that Neil Young & Crazy Horse are confirmed for the Oslo Spektrum on the 4th of July. Only 7000 (seated) tickets are on sale. Ticketsale starts tomorrow!!

Subject: Charlottesville Ticket sales

Since there's been confusion about this, here's info on the ticket sales for the Dave Matthews/Neil show in April from our local radio station, WWWV.

Note that there are special phones to call to get the "presale" tickets. I assume that they'll know whether you're "local" from the zip code on your credit card address.

SPECIAL PRESALE FOR CHARLOTTESVILLE RESIDENTS ONLY!

On sale Friday, March 2nd at 6:00PM at the Scott Stadium Box Office, charge by phone or order online.

The Scott Stadium Box Office will hold a wristband lottery system on Friday, March 2nd for Charlottesville residents and UVA students.

Numbered and color-coded wristbands will be distributed between 4:00 and 5:00PM at Scott Stadium's south-east gate closest to Stadium Road and Whitehead Road. At 5:00 PM, the color and numer for the first ticket to be sold will be drawn by lottery. Wristband holders will then be lined up by number inside the stadium. Tickets will be sold from 6:00 to 10:00PM

NOTE: Everyone who arrives between 4:00 and 5:00PM will have an equal chance to the first ticket. Under this lottery system, there is no advantage to coming early.

The ticket price is $46.50 plus Ticketmaster service charge. The Scott Stadium Box Office will accept cash or major credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, American Express) ONLY! No checks will be accepted. Each purchase is limited to 4 seats on the field or 6 in the stands.

Charge by phone will also take "pre-sale" telephone order from local residents on March 2nd beginning at 6:00PM by dialing 804-262-8100. If this number is busy you may call long distance at 540-343-8100 or 757-671-8100.

The general public ticket sales are Saturday morning.

The Dave Mathews Band benefit show on April 21 is a sure thing. It has been reported in all the newspapers here, and the University has approved the concert. In fact, Dave approached the university last year about having a concert at Scott Stadium but it was nixed due to the expansion work that was currently going on at the stadium.

There has been no word as of yet about the appearance of Neil in the local press, or on the Dave Mathews Band website

By the way, DMB will be on Saturday Night Live this weekend, as well as on the Charlie Rose Show and Letterman on Monday night.

Subject: Neil at DMB benefit show?

Nancies.org, one of the big Dave Mathews Band fan sites, is reporting that “inside sources” tell them that Neil Young and Crazy Horse will be opening for DMB at the University of Virginia’s Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, VA. The proceeds from this show will benefit DMB’s charitable foundation. The people who run Nancies.org are from the Charlottesville area and are close with friends of the band, so that’s probably a pretty good source.

Tickets to the show go on sale next Saturday, March 3.

One room will be reserved so that he can receive visitors. Another one for him to be alone. Moreover, the order includes a room for Neil Young to work out, and another one for his dancers."

Subject: Yet more Europe rumors

As things stand, nothing has been confirmed about the Neilster coming over the big millpond, but my spies at the NME have confirmed that Neil 'has been approached' about the Rock Am Ring festival in Germany, Holland's Pink Pop and the All Tomorrow's Parties event in England. This wouldn't happen unless the Neilster let it be known that he was open to offers for the European summer festival season. As far as major acts are concerned, that covers June and July.

All Tomorrow's Parties probably comes too early in the year to be considered, so watch out for a possible UK one-dayer fest or two, like 1993's Glasgow and Finsbury Park dates with Booker T & the MGs.

Confirmed news has probably been delayed by the owner of the Glastonbury Festival pulling the plug on this year's festival. There'll be a lot of bands and promoters looking for alternative arrangements -- and the late confirmation of (and continuing uncertainty about) this year's Roskilde Festival, after last year's sad events.

Incidentally, Guns 'N' Roses have been confirmed at Rock Am Ring. Despite what we might think, they'll certainly top the bill on the last day. There's nothing the Germans like more than super-axe-metal-rockin-gruppen-musick.   :-)

All in all, it's looking very positive, but we'll probably have to be patient and wait a while for confirmed dates. The big question is whether it'll be with CSNY (unlikely, and expensive, to take the show abroad) or The Horse...
