I just received the following info about the potential Brixton Academy shows from another UK Rustie. He's given me the go-ahead to pass it on...
"I telephoned a booking agent prentending to be someone in the know. The lady I spoke to was very cagey about confirming anything, but from what she said I think your source could well be right.Jules Upon the Sea"Looking at the bookings in May there is a gap from the 5th to the 10th...could Neil be filling a few of these? Lets hope so."
In a San Diego Union-Tribune interview with Croz ahead of the CSNY show, they say:
Their current tour, which stops tomorrow night at the San Diego Sports Arena, is the highest-grossing of the year. The group earned more than $7 million for just seven performances last month, according to Billboard's Boxscore, which tracks all North American concerts.
I heard Clear Channel Promoter Jim Koplik on his weekly radio call-in show on WPLR (New Haven) last night. Someone asked if Neil would play Connecticut this summer and his answer was a flat out "NO". He says it's because CSNY just played Hartford, and they don't want Neil to overplay this small market.

On the eFestivals site, Neil Young is listed as a "strong rumour" for the Glastonbury Festival. It's well known that it's an ambition of organiser Michael Eavis to have Neil play the event. Neil was forced to pull out in '97, and ever since tour plans have not fitted in with the festival. Things seem more likely this year.

According to Thurston Moore (of Sonic Youth), who personally selects the acts to appear at the All Tomorrow's Parties concert in LA, regarding how some of the acts that will play are more "mainstream" than the mostly "underground" acts that play the festival:
"The idea is to have music that may have a lot of success in the mainstream that we generally do like. You know, Neil Young -- he's a mainstream artist, we'd love to have presented him, and he was willing to do it, but he was committed to touring with CSN&Y."That would have been pretty cool if it had happened. According to Tacoma Dome, Ticketmaster and Clear Channel sources, Friday night's CSNY Tour of America show in Tacoma has been rescheduled to April 28. And Sunday night's show in Portland has been rescheduled to April 29. Existing tickets will be honored on those dates. Presumably refunds can be requested from Ticketmaster.
A press release says that the postponment is due to Neil having
the flu. There were reports of him having some voice problems
at the last show, so it appears that he's going to take advantage
of the upcoming extended break to heal up, by going home now
instead of next Monday.

After last night's show in Minneapolis, the CSNY Tour of America is half-way through. Twenty down, twenty to go. 544 songs have been performed, of well over a thousand that they'll do before the tour is over.
They've performed 39 different songs on the tour so far. Pre-tour, Croz was saying that they've rehearsed about 40, so maybe they'll still pull one or two suprises out of the hat.

Topic: Neil talks tour
In a Reuters article by Gary Graff, both Graham and Neil have a few comments about CSNY's Tour Of America. There have been a number of previous interviews with Nash, but these are the first Neil comments about the tour that I can recall:
"It just felt like a good time for CSNY to go out and play. CSNY's been around for a long time. People of our generation, I think, might get some kind of feeling of comfort or something from coming to a show of ours and seeing that we're still here, and everybody's still here, and we're still doing what we do."Regarding a comment by Nash about Neil's being in charge:
"I don't run it -- I don't want that responsibility!" he said with a laugh. "The reason I play with CSN is because ... I don't have to sing every song, because I like playing with them. I like being with guys I've known for 30 years that have gone through so much with me. It's a rewarding experience. It's fun to look around and see those guys."RE*AC*TOR
Regarding the afterthought mention of Neil going to Europe after the CSNY tour, the hosts of the "Rock im Park" and "Rock am Ring" rock festivals feel confident enough that Neil will be playing those big German rock festivals that they're broadcasting it big bold red in the schedules on their websites...
Here are some excerpts from an article in today's Toronto Sun, where Graham Nash talks about the CSNY tour (which starts tonight).
...Nash says they really had no choice but to perform, given the events of Sept. 11.Bum"I believe when Neil called and gathered the group together here (in L.A.), I think that he believed, and quite rightly because we all agreed, that it was time to go out. That it was time to play music because, of course, music is quite healing in its way and can take you out of your troubles and transport you to another place for a few hours. I think that might be very valuable." ....
...CSNY held "intense" rehearsals for about two weeks last month. Nash said they rehearsed roughly 40 songs...
...Nash said CSNY has maintained the form of the 2000 show, with two electric sets sandwiching an acoustic set, but they will be playing new songs this time out.
This was on the Australian Warner Music site...
CSNY Preps New Songs For Tour
Monday, February 04, 2002Launch - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young is slated to arrive in Michigan on Monday (February 4) for final preparations for its upcoming tour, which kicks off Wednesday (February 6) at the Palace Of Auburn Hills. The quartet and its accompanists--keyboardist Booker T. Jones, bassist Donald "Duck" Dunn, and drummer Steve "Smokey" Potts--will rehearse in nearby Saginaw before moving down to Auburn Hills.
Nash tells LAUNCH that CSNY is planning a set list that will vary from the shows the quartet played on its 2000 tour, including several songs from Neil Young's upcoming album, Are You Passionate?, which is scheduled for release during the tour. "We're probably gonna do Going Home, Let's Roll, Two Old Friends, You're My Girl -- there's four from Neil right there -- and stuff we've never done before. Wasted On The Way, we've never done, ever -- we just never did it. Military Madness, this band has never done."
Jones, Dunn, and Potts all play on Are You Passionate?. Young is planning a European solo tour with those players after the CSNY tour wraps in April.

Topic: Croz's promise
In an article in the Detroit Free Press, Croz promises a great show. Here's an excerpt...
"If I told you how good it's been you'd think I was trying to hype you," Crosby enthuses after the final rehearsal at Young's ranch in northern California. He attributes much of this to a dramatically revamped backing band compared to the one on the 2000 tour, which brought all four of them together for the first time in about a quarter century. Duck Dunn returns on bass, but he's brought along associates Booker T. Jones on keyboards and percussionist Steve Potts. Add their Memphis spice to the California confections of CSN&Y and the result, according to Crosby, is mind-blowing."They're so solid and strong internally," he says, "and it just jelled right away with our internal thing. It was the best first two days of rehearsal I've ever had with any group. We were bouncing around the stage like teenagers, we were so happy. It's an unbelievable band."
This will be reflected in a set list that has also been overhauled. "When we went into rehearsal this time, we reached back for things we hadn't done for a while. Like Wooden Ships, one of our best songs. Or Deja Vu, the title song of our best album. Plus we'll have new songs in the set as well. Neil especially has been writing some incredible stuff."
Regarding concert billboards, I just returned from Phoenix, where a huge CSNY billboard is prominently displayed on Interstate 10 -- it looks great. It's the Tour Of America background...

I think it's best that we not all jump the gun about thinking of the circulating non-CSNY Neil tour reports as an "announced Neil tour". The Billboard report said (emphasis mine):
Young is EXPECTED to tour this summer in support of the new album. Beforehand, he will....That's clearly a rumor. ArtistDirect has sent out some spam for their Neil-related products, and tried to make it look like something official (by sticking a link to the now dormant NeilYoung.com official site at the bottom of the page), and accompanied it with this variation on that same statement (emphasis theirs):
Neil JUST announced the release date of his new album Are You Passionate?. On March 26th, Neil will release his album which will include the single commemorating the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks entitled Let's Roll. The album will be followed up with a tour by Neil, dates are still to be announced. The statement "album will be followed up with a tour" could be taken as an official statement if you assume that ArtistDirect speaks officially for Neil. THEY DON'T. Just because the NeilYoung.com site is connected with ArtistDirect doesn't make news that they send out "official". And they didn't say WHEN, anyway.
There are also reports that the source of this rumor comes from "Neil's publicist". It must be noted that said "publicist" is actually a Reprise Records executive, and Reprise has not issued any press releases that announce such a tour. We really have not seen the actual words that this "publicist" has used, except as interpreted by news reports. Until the publicist issues a press release and/or we see an actual quote on the topic, I wouldn't take such reports too seriously.
At this point, that tour must be considered to be a rumor. Could
very well happen, but we really don't have any idea when. I wouldn't
make any decisions now based on the rumors...
